2016 Nissan Leaf

No alternative-power vehicle has made quite the impact or had quite the overall acceptance as the 2016 Nissan Leaf. It has made electric vehicles a common sight, providing efficiency in a convenient, user-friendly package, and it has helped Nissan to become the fastest-growing car brand in Canada. The Leaf is available in three trim levels: the S, the SV, and the SL.

Clean and Comfortable

The aerodynamic design of the four-door 2016 Nissan Leaf is not only pleasing to the eye, but the low-drag design helps to reduce resistance and improve efficiency. Aerodynamically-formed halogen headlights pop up on the front fenders, blending back towards the windshield, with energy-saving LED low-beam headlights available for even better efficiency. The beltline curves up towards the back, giving the Leaf a playful side, and meets the rear hatch fairly high up on the body. At the rear, the standard spoiler extends the roofline, while an available spoiler with solar panel insert further improves efficiency by converting the sun's energy to power the audio system and climate controls. To combat the ice and snow we face in the winter, every Leaf features dual power body-colour heated outside mirrors and a rear window defroster. Low-resistance tires sit on 16- or 17-inch wheels, while you can choose from five colours for the exterior paint.

Eco-friendly cars are often expected to be spartan inside to save weight and energy, but one of the major draws of the 2016 Nissan Leaf is that it is as spacious and comfortable as any other car in the Nissan line-up. Seating for five is offered in the choice of cloth, Bio-suede, or leather-appointed seats and the dimensions are generous. In the front, 1045 millimeters of head room and 1070 millimeters of legroom mean that full-sized adults will be quite comfortable. The rear seats offer space comparable to any other compact vehicle, while the 668 litres of cargo space beats any compact sedan, and most compact hatchbacks as well. The leather-wrapped steering wheel, along with every seat in the cabin, is heated - features rarely found outside luxury cars, and are perfectly suited for our climate. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls mean you can control the audio system without taking your hands off the wheel - choose from the four-speaker AM/FM/CD audio with 127 millimeter colour monitor, six-speaker AM/FM/CD audio with 178 millimeter colour monitor, or seven-speaker Bose Premium Audio System with 178 millimeter colour monitor. All models offer SiriusXM satellite radio along with an auxiliary audio jack and USB connection port for portable media. Stay connected with standard Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone and a hands-free text messaging assistant, standard in all trims. Higher trims get the Nissan Navigation System with Voice Destination Entry, along with NissanConnect EV which allow you to start vehicle charging, monitor status, and activate climate controls remotely.

No Fuel Needed

The all-electric powertrain in the 2016 Nissan Leaf requires zero fuel, and produces zero emissions. It is incredibly efficient, with the large batteries complemented by a regenerative braking system that converts motion back into electricity. All Leaf models feature normal charge and quick charge capabilities, so you can make the most of the power you have at hand. Speed-sensitive electric power steering and an independent strut front and torsion bar axle rear suspension with coil springs makes for an extremely comfortable, well-controlled ride.
